The Beginning.

The typical first blog post. I'm Cassidy, mom to an almost 3 year old, McKenzie. Kenzie (as we like to call her) is a very active 2 year old. She was born on Easter Sunday. Kenzie loves music. She attends preschool and is one smart kid!

What do I do for a living? Well I'm an EMT and a secretary. That's right, I work 2 jobs and somehow find time for my family. I'm very shy and outgoing at the same time. I'm very adventurous and on my free time (the little free time I do have) you'll find me scuba diving or volunteering for my local fire department.

My boyfriend, Will, is not Kenzie's real dad but he might as well be. Will is also an EMT and firefighter. He is an awesome guy and also very active.

Normal blog, right?

Wrong.... This blog has actually been created as an update reference and prayers/thoughts request for my future niece. Here's a little background: Brittney, my twin sister, and her fiance of 4 years, Jon, got pregnant. We just recently found out that they are having a GIRL. She is 21 weeks and they are already sure of the name, Laura. A week ago Britt's doctor sent her for a level 2 ultrasound to check out a "possible heart defect". Other then that, Laura looked perfect! All her measurements were right on and she was looking healthy. Fast forward to yesterday, Britt's level 2 ultrasound. I'm sitting at work and I get the call from my sister that baby Laura does have a heart defect. Not only did they find a heart defect but they found a spot in her pelvic area and excess fluid on her kidney. They don't know yet if this is all linked to a genetic disease or separate problems. Britt has refused the amniocentesis because of the risks of having it done. As far as any genetic diseases go, we will have to wait until baby Laura arrives.

From here on out, my sister will meet with a pediatric cardiologist, High Risk OB, Genetic counselor, and a regular OB. She will have constant monitoring for the baby and will need multiple ultrasounds. Right now its looking like Laura will have open heart surgery after she is born.

I hope to update this blog on a regular basis! All I ask is that everyone keeps Britt, Jon, and Laura in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you,
Cassidy
